Sage Hill sits among the newer wave of development in Calgary's Symons Valley area, one of five communities built out alongside Evanston, Kincora, Nolan Hill, and Sherwood near the city's northern boundary. It's bounded by Nolan Hill across Shaganappi Trail to the west, 144th Avenue NW to the north, Evanston to the east, and Kincora across 128th Avenue NW to the south. West Nose Creek flows through the eastern portion of Sage Hill, adding a natural corridor to a community otherwise built around planned residential streets and newer housing stock. Development here has moved quickly: the neighbourhood's population grew by more than 50 percent between the 2011 and 2012 municipal censuses alone, reflecting how quickly construction moved across the whole Symons Valley area during that period.
