Moraine is one of the newest community names on Calgary's map, formally adopted in December 2023 when the Calgary Planning Commission approved renaming the former Ambleton area as part of the Glacier Ridge Area Structure Plan's Community D. The name was chosen to reflect the glacial moraines found throughout the Glacier Ridge planning area, tying the community's identity to the ancient landscape features the broader development is named after. Because the naming change is recent and the underlying site was not yet fully developed at the time of the application, renters considering Moraine should expect a community still in the early stages of construction rather than a fully built neighbourhood with established amenities. It falls within the same North Calgary planning corridor as Glacier Ridge, Symons Valley Ranch, and the newer Symons Valley communities, sharing in the area's broader access to Stoney Trail and Sarcee Trail. As building progresses, Moraine is expected to pick up the same kind of parks, pathways, and neighbourhood amenities found in nearby master-planned communities like Glacier Ridge. For now, renters are getting in early on one of Calgary's newest-named communities, with the housing stock, schools, and local shopping still filling in around them.
