Evanston was established in 2002 and has grown into one of the more built-out communities in Calgary's Symons Valley area, alongside Kincora, Nolan Hill, Sage Hill, and Sherwood. It's bounded by Kincora across Shaganappi Trail to the southwest, Sage Hill to the west, 144th Avenue NW to the north, 14th Street NW to the east, and Panorama Hills and Hidden Valley across Stoney Trail to the south and southeast, with Carrington bordering to the northeast. The community was designed under an EQWell initiative aimed at reducing environmental impact while building in ample outdoor space — the result is seven playgrounds, sixteen green spaces, and a network of connecting trails and pathways throughout. Notre Dame High School sits about four kilometres to the southeast, and Evanston's population had already climbed past 11,500 by the 2016 census, reflecting how quickly the area filled in after its 2002 start. Stoney Trail wraps two sides of the community, giving renters fast access to downtown, Calgary International Airport, and the Trans-Canada Highway toward the mountains. Combined with the shopping and schools shared across the wider Symons Valley area, Evanston offers renters one of the more established options among Calgary's newer north Calgary communities, with over two decades of build-out behind it.
