Lakeview takes its name from the view of the Glenmore Reservoir afforded by its position, on land annexed to Calgary in 1956 and founded as a community in 1962. The neighbourhood sits between Glenmore Trail and Crowchild Trail out to 37 Street, the western city limit at that point, with the Tsuu T'ina Nation reserve bordering it directly to the west. Many of Lakeview's original homes were built by Engineered Homes Ltd. of Calgary, and residences south of 66 Avenue form a distinct sub-area called Lakeview Village, known for larger, more expensive homes. The Calgary Rowing Club and Calgary Canoe Club operate from the south end of the community, adjacent to the Glenmore Reservoir, giving renters access to canoeing, rowing, and reservoir-pathway walking and cycling without leaving the area. Renters east of 30th Street can, under a longstanding arrangement between the two community associations, also access programming through the neighbouring North Glenmore Park Community Association. With Crowchild Trail providing a direct route toward downtown and Weaselhead Flats and Heritage Park both close by, Lakeview offers a quieter, reservoir-adjacent alternative within southwest Calgary.
