U District Rentals: LEED Platinum NW | Livenvo Rent
University District broke ground in 2015 on what the university calls its former West Campus lands, and has since earned LEED-ND Platinum certification for sustainable neighbourhood design. Renters get a walkable, MAX BRT-connected community with shops, restaurants, and green space built in from the start, steps from Market Mall and the main U of C campus.
University District occupies roughly 200 acres on the west side of the University of Calgary's main campus, land the province transferred to the university in 1995 and construction on which began in 2015. Homes here are sold on 99-year leasehold titles rather than traditional freehold ownership, since the university retains the underlying land — an unusual structure for Calgary that's worth knowing about even for renters, since it shapes who owns the buildings you're renting from. The neighbourhood was designed from the ground up around walkability, with complete streets accommodating walking, biking, and driving, plus enhanced transit service including MAX Bus Rapid Transit stations connecting to the rest of the city. That design earned University District a LEED-ND Platinum certification, recognizing it as a model for sustainable neighbourhood planning in Calgary. Renters get immediate access to Market Mall, Foothills Medical Centre, the Alberta Children's Hospital, and McMahon Stadium, all within easy walking or biking distance, along with the shops, restaurants, and green space built directly into the community's master plan. For renters who want new construction, strong walkability, and direct proximity to the university and hospital corridor, University District is one of the newest and most purpose-built options in northwest Calgary.
