Montgomery Rentals by Bow River Pathways | Livenvo Rent
Montgomery got its current name in 1943, honouring British Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery, after first being established in 1911, with the town of Bowness sitting directly across the Bow River until its own 1964 annexation. Renters get Market Mall and Shaganappi Trail on one edge and river pathway access along the community's southern and western boundaries.
Montgomery was originally established as a community in 1911 and carried a different name until 1943, when it was renamed in honour of Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery, the celebrated British military leader. The community is bounded by Shaganappi Trail to the east, 32nd Avenue NW and Market Mall to the north, and the Bow River to the south and west, with the community of Bowness — itself a separate town until Calgary annexed it in 1964 — sitting directly across the river. Market Mall, one of Calgary's established shopping centres, anchors the community's northern edge, giving renters everyday retail and grocery options without a long commute. The Bow River pathway system wraps two sides of Montgomery, connecting south toward Point McKay and Edworthy Park or west toward Bowness Park. Montgomery's housing stock reflects its early-20th-century roots alongside decades of subsequent infill, giving renters a mix of character homes, townhouses, and low-rise apartments. Shaganappi Trail and Crowchild Trail both provide fast routes across the city, making Montgomery a practical choice for renters who want river access and established shopping without the density of the inner Kensington core.
