Dalhousie was established in 1967, named after George Ramsay, the 9th Earl of Dalhousie, and developed into one of the larger communities in this part of northwest Calgary. It's bounded by John Laurie Boulevard to the north, Shaganappi Trail to the east, Crowchild Trail to the south, and Sarcee Trail to the west, bordering Ranchlands, Edgemont, Varsity, and Brentwood. Dalhousie Station serves the Red Line CTrain directly within the community, giving renters a straightforward commute downtown or toward the University of Calgary and SAIT without transferring. The neighbourhood's mature, tree-lined streets and mix of mid-century bungalows, split-levels, and newer infill reflect more than five decades of steady development since its 1967 founding. Foothills Medical Centre and the Alberta Children's Hospital sit just south of the community, making Dalhousie a practical option for hospital staff alongside the students and professionals drawn to its CTrain access. Nearby shopping at Market Mall and Northland Village adds everyday retail without a long drive. For renters who want an established, well-connected northwest community with direct rail access, Dalhousie remains one of the area's steadier options.
