Altadore Rentals Near Marda Loop | Livenvo Rent
Marda Loop, Calgary's largest and busiest outdoor shopping district, anchors Altadore today, though the land was annexed back in 1910 and not established as a named community until 1945. Renters here get River Park's off-leash dog park and river access, walkable streets, and a steady wave of high-end infill construction.
Altadore's land was annexed to Calgary in 1910, though the community wasn't established under its current name until 1945, with most of its early bungalow-style housing following in the 1950s. The neighbourhood is bounded by 33rd Avenue and South Calgary to the north, River Park and 14th Street to the east, Garrison Woods and Crowchild Trail to the west, and 50th Avenue to the south, and it's part of the Marda Loop Communities Association alongside Garrison Woods and South Calgary. Marda Loop itself, the business strip along 33rd and 34th Avenues, takes its name from the Marda Theatre, a mid-century cinema whose name combined those of its founders, Mark and Mada Jenkins, and from the streetcar turnaround that once looped through the area; the name was chosen through a business association contest in 1985. River Park, on the Elbow River at Altadore's eastern edge, holds one of Calgary's most popular off-leash dog areas along with picnic space and river access toward Sandy Beach. Altadore was named one of Calgary's best neighbourhoods in 2010, and the community has seen steady gentrification since, with high-end semi-detached infill homes replacing older bungalows throughout, particularly near the Marda Loop commercial strip.
