Chinatown Rentals by Sien Lok Park | Livenvo Rent
Calgary's Chinatown has occupied its current site at the foot of the Centre Street Bridge since 1910, after two earlier relocations across the city. Renters here find the Canton Block's century-old buildings, Sien Lok Park along the Bow River, and easy walking access to City Hall and Centre Street C-Train stations.
Chinatown's current location, anchored around Centre Street and 2nd Avenue Southeast, dates to 1910, when Chinese merchants purchased land at the foot of the Centre Street Bridge after being displaced twice from earlier sites closer to the original downtown core. The Canton Block, built between 1910 and 1911, still stands today as the community's oldest Chinese-owned building and a protected historic resource. The neighbourhood sits along the Bow River, with Sien Lok Park providing riverside green space and pathway access on its northern edge, and it borders both the Downtown Commercial Core and Eau Claire, giving renters a central location without downtown's highest density. Restaurants, grocers, and specialty shops line the neighbourhood's compact commercial strip, and the area's role as a cultural centre for Calgary's Chinese community continues alongside its function as a walkable residential district. Multiple C-Train stations, including Centre Street and City Hall on the 7th Avenue corridor, sit within a short walk, connecting renters to both the Red and Blue lines. For anyone who wants a downtown-adjacent address with more character than the office towers nearby, Chinatown offers over a century of continuous history in a compact footprint.
