West Hillhurst Rentals Near Bow River | Livenvo Rent
West Hillhurst's development took off in 1945, when many of its houses were built as 'Victory Homes' for soldiers returning from the Second World War — a number of which still stand today. Renters get a community bisected by Crowchild Trail, bounded by the Bow River to the south, with Kensington's shops a short walk east.
West Hillhurst was annexed to Calgary in 1907, but substantial development didn't arrive until 1945, when many of its original homes went up as 'Victory Homes' for soldiers returning from the Second World War. Despite being intended as temporary housing, a number of these buildings are still standing today, giving parts of the community a distinct mid-century character. The neighbourhood is bisected by Crowchild Trail and bordered by Hounsfield Heights/Briar Hill and St. Andrews Heights to the north, 18th Street NW to the east, the Bow River to the south, and 28th Street NW to the west. That puts renters within easy reach of Kensington's shops and restaurants just across 14th Street, along with the Bow River pathway system running the length of the community's southern edge. West Hillhurst is one of four communities — alongside Sunnyside, Hillhurst, and Hounsfield Heights/Briar Hill — that share infrastructure and planning through a joint local area plan, reflecting how closely these neighbourhoods function as a single walkable district. With housing spanning 1940s Victory Homes through recent infill construction, West Hillhurst offers renters a wide range of unit types within a few minutes of downtown.
