Acadia was developed in the 1960s along Elbow Drive, in the band of Calgary's South quadrant between Southland Drive and Anderson Road. It's one of the more centrally located communities in this part of the city, which shows in its housing mix: alongside the expected single-family homes and secondary suites, Acadia has a handful of low-rise apartment buildings, giving renters more purpose-built rental options than most of its neighbours. Southcentre Mall is a short drive away, covering most shopping and service needs, while Fish Creek Provincial Park's pathway network reaches Acadia's edge for renters who want river valley access without leaving the community. Both the Southland and Anderson C-Train stations are within reach, making Acadia one of the better-connected South communities for downtown commuters. Acadia shares its postal footprint with Deer Run, Diamond Cove, Deer Ridge, Bonavista Downs, Lake Bonavista, and Lake Bonaventure, the wider cluster of established South communities built around Fish Creek Park and the Bow River corridor.
