Bridgeland Rentals Near the Zoo | Livenvo Rent
Once two separate settlements known as Germantown and Little Italy for their Russian-German and Italian immigrant populations, Bridgeland/Riverside merged into a single community along the Bow River directly across from downtown. Today it mixes condominiums, walk-up apartments, and older houses, with the Calgary Zoo, Telus Spark, and two Blue Line C-Train stations all within its boundaries.
Bridgeland/Riverside began as two separate settlements on the north bank of the Bow River: Riverside, established in 1908 and known informally as Germantown for its Russian-German immigrant population, and Bridgeland, developed by the Dominion Bridge Company for working-class residents. Both were annexed to the city in 1910, and by the early twentieth century the area had also drawn Italian and Ukrainian immigrants, earning the Bridgeland side the nickname Little Italy. The two names eventually merged into the community's current combined form. Today the neighbourhood is bounded by the Bow River to the south, Deerfoot Trail to the east, Edmonton Trail to the west, and Renfrew to the north, and it holds one of Calgary's more varied inner-city housing mixes, from early-1900s houses to newer parkside condominium towers. Renters have direct access to two Blue Line C-Train stations, Bridgeland/Memorial and Zoo, putting downtown a few minutes away without a car. The Calgary Zoo and Telus Spark science centre, a $160-million facility that opened in 2011, both sit within the community's boundaries, and Edmonton Trail carries a walkable strip of restaurants, cafes, and independent shops. For renters who want inner-city walkability with river pathway access, Bridgeland/Riverside is one of the more connected options in the northeast.
